Ex-Industrial Nightlife
Germany | Duisburg
2013
A long time ago the area was dominated by intense industrialisation and not accessible for visitors. In 1901 August Thyssen started his company at this location and was very lucrative. Due to overcapacity in the European steel market the company had to close their factory in 1985. The demise of iron production left an industrial wasteland of more than 200 hectares waiting for a new use. The great commitment of interested citizens makes it possible to stop the threatened demolition and a new type of park was created between the city districts of Meiderich and Hamborn. The new park is a composition of nature, industrial heritage and fascinating light installations which is only experienced at this location.
